Doug redeemed himself today at first light and shot a nice 11-pointer. I was happy for him. He was pretty dejected after yesterday, and I know the feeling all too well. I was glad to see that he could put the memory behind himself.
Here's the kicker... he shot the same deer he wounded out of the same tree at the same time 24 hours after the initial hit. Once again, the buck was with a doe. It's amazing how everything transpired. The deer most likely never knew Doug shot at it the first time.
I had a slow start to my day. It was chilly this morning when I got out of the car. It was 29 degrees. The win cut into me, and I could feel the wind chill instantly. After climbing into the tree and getting settled, I had an abundance of confidence. I felt like today was going to be the day.
As the hours rolled on, I couldn't believe I hadn't seen anything. The conditions were ideal for deer movement. I did hear commotion in the bushes and surmised it was a buck chasing a doe. I also heard a deer walking toward me, but it never made its way to me.
Then, about 11, all hell broke loose and about six bucks went by me chasing a few does. However, none of them were big, but I got the sense a big one was running the roost and the doe wasn't ready. The commotion didn't last long, but an hour after it stopped, two more bucks cruised by my stand.
At the end of the day, I saw a doe and fawn feed past me. It seemed there was a little more movement today than the last few days. Once again, the wind was hammering, but the temperature topped out in the low 60s.
We will see what tomorrow brings. It's Veterans Day, so I would imagine there will be a few people out and about. There usually is on Veterans Day.
