The sun set on my hunt today, and I'm going home without ever drawing my bow. I think that's the first time I can remember that happening in a long time. I simply never had an opportunity to draw my bow on an animal. While I did see plenty of deer that were worth shooting, I didn't see what I was looking for. I won't like and tell you I'm not disappointed, but that's the way the ball rolls sometimes. If you want to kill a giant buck, you can't kill a really nice buck. That's what I chose to do on this hunt. I don't regret my choice.

I'm not sure why I can't paste photos into this tonight, but my buddy Jimmy killed a giant Adirondack buck this evening. I took him under my wing a handful of years ago and tried to show him a different style of hunting. He's in his late 20s and has killed some awesome Adirondack deer, but none like this one. We put on more miles than most people could ever imagine in pursuit of this deer, and I'm really happy Jimmy used all of the knowledge we gathered to anchor it to the ground. I'm pumped for him. Although the deer needs to dray for scoring, Jimmy is an official NY state scorer, and he taped it at 156 and change gross and 153 and change net... and incredible animal. In my group of close friends, it doesn't matter who kills the deer because we all have a part in each one of them. We work as a team and there is no I in team. This is a prime example of it. Jimmy, Brian and I all had information on this deer, so we all tried to get Jimmy in the right place at the right time on his week of vacation while Brian and I were in the Midwest. We succeeded, so we all celebrate in his success.
